Clifford Comes to School for a Good Cause

The Blank Children’s Hospital’s Festival of Trees and Lights has a connection to Ruby Van Meter School.  Money raised from groups enjoying the colorful display and bidding on the chance to take an amazing tree home supports Blank Children’s Hospital.
An Anonymous Donor has been partnering with Iowa PBS for years to enter a tree in the Festival of Trees and Lights each year.  The Donor has specified that the tree be given to Ruby Van Meter School (though Smouse Opportunity School received trees for many years before the two schools combined).
A lighted tree was delivered to the school office. Caryline and Alisa from Iowa PBS brought the swag and decorated the tree  filling the branches with Elmo, Daniel Tiger, Clifford the Big Red Dog and more. The students who have been coming to school in person have been delighted to view the tree and some of their favorite Public Television characters.
Toys and books from the tree will be added to the PBIS Store for our students to purchase with stars earned for displaying positive behavior. The tree will be given to a Ruby Van Meter family. (The family has already been selected.)
This year, it’s the event is virtual, like so many current activities. You can enjoy the beauty and make a difference by downloading the $5.00 Festival of Trees and Lights app. Click on the QR code below to find the app..
