Unified Basketball!

DMPS is again hosting Special Olympics Unified Basketball games, with Ruby Van Meter playing at all of the Metro High Schools. Roosevelt general education students join our athletes to make up a strong team. All athletes and spectators must be masked, but players can remove their mask while on the court.

Unified games take place during halftime of the Girls’ Varsity game (approximately 6:45 PM.) Admission is $5 per person (K-Adult).

The first game was last Friday at Hoover High School, where fans cheered loudly. The Hoover and Ottumwa teams made a tunnel for our Athletes to walk through at the end of the game!

Coach Tina Ballou wrote, “Our Friday night Unified Basketball game was a HUGE success! Thank you to all the RVM staff and families who came to cheer on our athletes! I think RVM had more fans than the Hoover varsity teams! And thank you to Tahaun who stepped in to be our Unified partner!”

We hope that you will consider joining us to cheer on Ruby Van Meter in the upcoming games:

Tuesday, January 11 at East HS (Start time approximately 6:45 PM)

Tuesday, January 25 at North HS (Start time approximately 6:45 PM)

Tuesday, February 8 at Lincoln HS (Start time approximately 6:45 PM)

Friday, February 11 at Roosevelt HS (Start time approximately 6:45 PM)
