Ruby Van Meter School Dismissal at 3:25 PM on May 29th!
The Des Moines Public Schools’ academic year will end on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 .
UPDATE: Ruby Van Meter School will dismiss at 3:25 PM.
As a safety precaution, DMPS dismissed classes two hours early on May 21, 2024 so that students and staff would be home before the storms arrived in the late afternoon.
Because of that early dismissal, combined with other weather-related dismissals and closures earlier this school year, we do have a couple of hours of instructional time that need to be made up in order to meet the state’s legal requirements.
In order to do so, classes on Wednesday, May 29 – the last day of the school year – will dismiss at their regular time: 2:40 PM for all elementary schools and 3:25 PM for Ruby Van Meter School, middle schools and high schools.
Bus drivers will not be collecting bus vests this year. Please wash your student’s vest, air dry it and hang it somewhere that you can easily find it for that first ride to school in the fall.
Students that will not be returning to RVM should make arrangements with the teacher or the school office to turn in the bus vest.
High school and elementary school hours will be changing for the 2024- 2025 academic year. but Ruby Van Meter’s start and end times will remain the same. School starts t 8:30 AM and ends at 3:25 PM.

Next year school will start on Monday, August 26, 2024.
