For nearly a century, DMPS has worked to improve education for students with disabilities. Today, more students are able to attend neighborhood schools rather than need a special school. Those changes plus a commitment to providing the best continuum of services to students is leading to another change: the merger of Smouse Opportunity School with Ruby Van Meter School. Gloria Gallegos is one of our students who loves chocolate milk. Her occupational therapist wanted to find a way that she could enjoy it on her own, so he roughed out an idea that found its way to a Computer Aided Design class at East, where a student took on the challenge of turning the idea into reality, designing and manufacturing a custom milk carton holder.
